GAcoaster
From CBS3 Philadelphia: Massive Fire Damages Wildwood Attraction WILDWOOD (CBS 3) ― Over 200 firefighters were called to popular Jersey shore attraction for a massive fire early Monday morning. Officials said flames broke out at Mariner's Landing at Morey's Piers on the Wildwood boardwalk just before 1:30 a.m. The fire quickly grew, engulfing several offices and storage space as well as severely damaging some rides, including bumper cars. Witnesses reported seeing several small explosions during the fire. Approximately 13 fire departments were called to the scene to fight the huge blaze. The fire was said to be under control at about 4 a.m. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the incident and were taken to an area hospital to be treated. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There's a short video on the website.
JetsDevs4Lyf
Wow looks like a lot of damage there. Thank goodness though that it happened when it did and notduring the day when people could have been on the pier and in harm's way. Better to lose rides than people that is for sure. I also hope it turns out to be an accident of some sort and nothing a person may have done purposely.
The Master
Yeah I just saw it on 6ABC 12:00 NEWS, such a shame that it happened but at least the whole pier was not damaged or destroyed. Railer
It always seems every fire on the Boardwalk in Wildwood is arson. I don't know what the cause of this fire is, but that town always seem's to burn by the hands a sixteen yr. old kid. It still really bothers me that the Dracula's Castle was burnt by two sixteen year old's, and then they get off easy because their minors. Funny you should mention this as while talking about the Wildwood Fire with parents today after seeing a news blip about it, they mentioned how it was a shame that this place was never rebuilt after that fire simply because it was so kid-friendly and the Romper Room stuff they had was a sure thing. Railer
I think the biggest loss of all the Jersey Shore Boardwalk fires has to be Brigantine Castle. That was the biggest and best of all Haunted Houses in the state.
29yrswithaGApass
In the early 80s I was a fan of the Million Dollar Pier in Atlantic City. When it was announced that the pier was going to be demolished to build the Ocean One Pier (shopping mall), I contacted Caesar's Boardwalk Regency Casino that owned the old pier to see if it would be possible to get the clown head pictured in the photo below over the words Million Dollar Pier as a "souvenir"! Surprisingly, the president of Caesar's sent me a response (which I still have) saying that he would arrange for me to get the clown's head when that part of the pier was dismantled. A couple of weeks prior to the demolition, fire hit the pier and destroyed the whole thing. I think my father was relieved because he couldn't figure out how we were going to get it home or what we would do with it once it arrived! Railer
That would of been a real 'treasure' to have. Do you know the cause of the fire? I can take a guess though, Sixteen yr. olds with matches, but it being A.C. it could of been a 61 yr. old with matches under the Boardwalk. JetsDevs4Lyf
That was gonna be pretty generous of them to send you the Clown Head. I guess it just goes to show sometimes what happens when you take a chance at something.
