GAcoaster
Click here for the full list of Golden Ticket Award Winners! As usual, this is very political (the advertisers in Amusement Today are usually the winners), and highly skewed towards certain die hard fan favorite parks (Cedar Point, Holiday World, Knoebels). El Toro was named the #4 Wooden Coaster in the world (beat out by Voyage (#1), Thunderhead (#2), Phoenix (#3)). Superman Ride of Steel at SFNE was once again named the world's #1 steel coaster, with Millennium Force at #2 and Nitro at #3.

GAcoaster
I think the steel coaster rankings are OK, it's the wood coasters I have to disagree with.
Railer
Nitro is one hell of a ride. It deserves to be three in the Ranking's. The fact that Top Thrill Dragster is #9 and not Kingda Ka, is odd. Edited September 4, 2008 by Railer
29yrswithaGApass
Worse case, I would have ranked El Toro #2 behind Thunderhead. I think Voyage and Phoenix are good but not in the top three. Blessed are the coasters that reside in Holiday World, Knoebels, and CP! GAcoaster
Press release from Six Flags: Six Flags Wins Top Honors at 2008 Golden Ticket Awards Thursday September 4, 9:00 am ET Repeat Wins for Six Flags New England and Six Flags Fiesta Texas Highlight Ceremony NEW YORK, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Six Flags, Inc. (NYSE: SIX - News) announced today that Amusement Today, the nation's leading theme park industry publication, has awarded the company two coveted 2008 Golden Ticket Awards. The Golden Ticket Awards annually recognize the "Best of the Best" in the leisure entertainment industry. These awards, often referred to as "The Oscars of the Amusement Industry," are voted on by a panel of experts and enthusiasts from across the country. Six Flags has once again received top honors for the industry's Best Shows with Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, Texas winning an unprecedented 10th straight award in the category. Six Flags was also recognized for the Best Steel Coaster -- SUPERMAN Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. This is the fourth win for this perennial favorite and its third in a row. Six Flags held 15 placements on Amusement Today's list of the 50 Top Steel Coasters with SUPERMAN Ride of Steel receiving top honors, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure coming in at number 3 and Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia ranking 6th. Among the Top 50 Wooden Coasters, Six Flags had 7 placements including El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure at number 4. "Superman Ride of Steel is simply an amazing machine," said Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards Communications Coordinator Tim Baldwin. "There is no other steel coaster anywhere on the planet that delivers great drops, massive negative Gs, and wild directional changes to the scale Superman does. It's the ultimate package." Baldwin went on to say, "All the finalists in our Best Shows category have a strong commitment to bringing great entertainment to their guests. Despite the heavy competition, Six Flags Fiesta Texas has reigned supreme. The Halloween production Monster Mash Bash is worth the price of admission itself ... the show is tremendous." Baldwin also noted, "The return of Majesty of Christmas during Holiday in the Park last year was thrilling. What an incredible show. When added to the summer entertainment of The Lone Star Spectacular and the legendary Rockville shows, Fiesta Texas really sets the bar for theme park shows year round." Six Flags parks secured Top Five rankings in seven different Golden Ticket categories: Best Steel Roller Coaster -- Golden Ticket Award Winner - SUPERMAN Ride of Steel - Six Flags New England -- Nitro - Six Flags Adventure Best Wooden Roller Coaster -- El Toro - Six Flags Great Adventure Best Shows -- Golden Ticket Award Winner - Six Flags Fiesta Texas Best Outdoor Show Production -- Six Flags Fiesta Texas Best Waterpark Ride -- Deluge - Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Best Marine Life Park -- Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Best Carousel -- Riverview Carousel - Six Flags Over Georgia -- Columbia Carousel - Six Flags Great America "We are very proud of our portfolio of parks and the world class, thrilling entertainment each of them deliver every single operating day," said Mike Antinoro, Six Flags Executive Vice President of Entertainment and Marketing, "and we are extremely grateful to Amusement Today and theme park guests everywhere for this honor and recognition." GAcoaster
I think Glow in the Park should have won something in this.
rcji
I'm convinced that the Golden Ticket awards favor Cedar Point. They rate Maverick #12 and Fahrenheit #46?! I never rode Maverick but from reading reviews from people who have done both most of them said Fahrenheit was better but still that big of a difference? Also I don't understand how TTD keeps staying in the top 10. At least El Toro is climbing up there....Congrats Nitro and El Toro!
warnerleroy
I think Glow in the Park should have won something in this. They should add a best parade catagory
darkridedan
^^rcjj, Fahrenheit is not like Maverick. Maverick delivers a punch throughout the ride and has allot of tight, swift-moving inversions. It uses theming to enhance the experience and it has a powerful launch. It swoops over a pond and looks beautiful by the lake. Fahrenheit floats around meanders after the steep lift and drop.
