The Chiller's roar?
GAcoaster replied to The Master's topic in Do you remember this at Great Adventure?
It was so loud, and part of that was that it was right on the walkway! There was no avoiding it. -
After looking at many options, I have decided that the best path forward for our Forums is to partner with ParkFans.net. They already have an active forum which primarily focuses on Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Kings Dominion, but covers parks around the country and around the world as well. They have always had active discussions of Great Adventure, and welcomed our members to become part of their forums. https://parkfans.net/threads/welcome-greatadventurehistory-com-forum-members.7998/ I hope everyone will join me there!

I am finalizing the plans for the future of our Forums, and should be ready to announce it soon.

They announced the "new" Tiana's Bayou Adventure will open this summer at WDW and showed of the really impressive animatronic:

New for 2024- Flash: Vertical Velocity & More!

This seems to be a contractor building and running it, so the risk for the park is minimal. -

Never thought I'd see the day the park bills itself as a "resort" The pricing I've been seeing on the "glamping" is just INSANE if true, but we'll see what happens...

And apparently it will live on in a new home!

I'm just so glad they kept it instead of removing it. It was a real close call from what I understand...

I am hoping to send out an email to everyone on the mailing list announcing the next steps, along with posting it on Facebook. It looks like the Forums and Galleries here will still be functional into March, so we have a few weeks left here as well.

As soon as the details are settled I'll let everyone know. It SHOULD be something that everyone will be happy with. -

Not to worry, I am fairly certain we have a new, better solution which should make everyone happy. I hope to have more information and an announcement soon... -
Nice to see the horses getting painted!

The Future of the Great Adventure History Website and Forums
GAcoaster replied to GAcoaster's topic in Site Information
The issue is that the Forums and Galleries cost quite a bit of money to keep open. I can't afford to keep them open out of my own pocket, and if I can't count on a steady source of money to keep them up, it's just unfeasible. I am looking at another option now which seems like it may be the best solution. I will let you all know more as soon as I have things together. Ideally the solution will be open to all and free to use for the site and for users who wish to participate. -

I will keep that in mind! I am leaning towards Discord although I know very little about it, so if I do help will be appreciated. -
Maybe they just let it stand there like the Coney Island parachute tower?

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?
GAcoaster replied to MarioSonic94's topic in General Discussions
I'll live with it-- better than losing the Skyride and as a passholder I still get it free. SeaWorld San Diego was the same way with the Skyride and the Sky Tower as upcharges and SeaWorld Orlando does the same with their Sky Tower. Skyrides and Sky Towers are an endangered species with the age and cost of maintaining them, and if it's pay extra or lose it, I'll pay to keep it. I hope Great Adventure's Skyride survives, but I've heard rumors it is going away... -

Harry had all those in varying states of development-- I will do as much as I can to finish them and post them. -
Rumor of the Simpsons maybe leaving Universal.
GAcoaster replied to The Master's topic in Industry Rumors
It's a VERY strong possibility. Looks like end of 2024 is most likely timeline with Pokemon replacing it in 2027. Universal is ALL IN on Nintendo at this point, and Simpsons contract expires end of 2028. The ride system is old and needs replacement and they've made as much money as they could from the franchise. Marvel's contract is essentially in perpetuity unless Universal wants to break it or doesn't keep thing to the standards set in it. -

That is a possibility, I just have to figure out if there's really enough community to support it. As it is we've seen traffic drop off on here to the point that we debated whether to go forward with the Forums before all this. Since we have a Facebook page already established (although I didn't post in it nearly enough) I think a FB group might be the solution. -
Just want to let everyone know I'm currently trying to figure out the path forward with the website. I don't think most people realize the devotion that Harry had to it, paying hundreds of dollars a year to keep the site and forums running. I should be able to migrate most of the website onto my own hosting, but I can't continue to pay for the Forum and Gallery hosting, and since it was all in Harry's name, I don't currently have access to the Invision hosting for it. At some point, the Forums and Galleries will just close, probably without any warning. I hope that I can salvage the sources files for all the photos and videos in the gallery and find a new way to post them all. Please, if you are on Facebook, "like" the page to stay up to date on future developments and arrangements.

I hope to continue the site in some capacity, but I'm still not sure what that looks like yet.
