kennybo
I had some momentous times at Great Adventure concerts in the early to mid 1980's. I am trying to get some dates that the concerts were held at the Great Arena, although I realize that this may be impossible. Eddie Money, Rick Springfield, Bonjovi, John Cafferty, Clarence Clemens, Crystal Ship, Robert Hazzard etc. Any info, especially 1985, to get me started would be a big help. Railer
I know I saw : Molly Hatchett, Ted Nugent, and we all remember the day Golden Earring played there, and Donnie and Marie Osmond and Bow Wow Wow (I want Candy). I have to think a little for the rest of the acts I saw, But those were all in the 80's.
gafreak
i rember the park always having those christan rock bands to like DC Talk , those concerts would make the park packed for some reason.
GAcoaster
Yeah, the biggest turnouts we'd get were for the Christian acts and the country acts. It's because the BIG venues we compete with in NYC/Philly/AC book the big rock acts but don't usually book those acts, so local fans come to the park for them. kennybo
Wow, you guys are great. Real good info. I also remember that the Christian acts would be big sellers and the Park would be packed. I also remember a story (from my Mom) that Andy Gibb was there is the late 70's and there were girls passing out and people rushing the stage and a lot of security issues. I was too young for that. Thanks for the help.
Chiller
Yeah, the biggest turnouts we'd get were for the Christian acts and the country acts. There's no country concerts this year yet. Except Charlie Daniels is in the Freedom concert that is extra.
Csogi
The employee's had to park in the safari the day of the Andy Gibb concert. We were then bused to the employee entrance. That was one of the days that the park closed, not allowing any more people in. Is there any history on the largest attendance? Or how often the park stopped allowing people in because the crowd was so large? It happened a few times a year in the 70's.
GAcoaster
There have been a few of those concert days where the park reached capacity, but in the past decade the capacity days are generally the last weekend of Fright Fest. I know the "record" for attendance at the park was some number over 60,000 and if I remember right it was a 4th of July concert day in the early 80's. Since then the park's capacity has been lowered because it was just too much for the park's infrastructure to have that many people.
29yrswithaGApass
I've been going through a ton of old show schedules and ran across Quarterflash performing in 1983 at the Great Arena. Now I can't get this song out of my head.
ericthewanderer
Are you sure that video was taken in the Great Arena? It looks like an episode of Solid Gold!
29yrswithaGApass
The video isn't from the Great Arena. I was referring to the show schedule from when Quarterflash was listed as a performer at the Great Arena.
Yankees99
Did anybody here see former Fleetwood Mac star Christine McVie when she performed in concert at GA in 1984? It was a week after the Haunted House mishap. I wanted to go (she played solo and Mac tunes for nearly two hours), but was soon getting ready to move to California. 29yrswithaGApass
Yep, she performed at the park on May 18th, 1984. I didn't see her though... I am more of a Stevie Nicks type of guy! They just don't make '80's videos anymore!
gafreak
the concerts dont seem to be a big plan of this new managment, im not sure yet if its good or bad, i do like the concerts but can certinaly see where the big acts comming in could cost more, and the park seems to be in conservative mode at this time. Chain
I attended the Andy Gibb concert in 1978 when I was 9 years old. He was supposed to do two shows in one night, but there was so much demand that they added a third show at the last minute.
