gasmspiritblue
Everybody knows that The Runaway Train used to have 4 trains, but what happend to the 4th train, i mean like did it get scrapped for money $$$$$$ or did it go to another arrow Runaway Train themed ride in another park i have always wondered about that?? gafreak
i belive that its used for parts, you can see the yellow trains shell if you ride the left (back) side of rolling thunder. the ride is old so im sure striping a train for parts was the more cost effective mood rather then to have parts made. gasmspiritblue
I thought that was the "C" train being rehabbed because 2 years ago it was the "B" train over there and the C train on the ride then this year the C train was over there and the B train on the track. ILL look harder next time.
GAcoaster
Really they only need two trains at a time so the third is in rehab for each season. As for the fourth, I don't know for sure, but I think they sent it to another park that needed a spare train. There is no way they were ever running four trains again and i guess SFOT or SFOG needed a spare.
29yrswithaGApass
The most recent photo I have of the 4th train (orange on yellow) was from 1980- nothing after that. Three train operation ended in 1987. It is amazing to think that this ride had four trains at one point. I always wondered why Rolling Thunder didn't have an extra train to use when one of the four was inoperable.
gasmspiritblue
I always think its weird that they ran 3 trains when it was the skids, but now with more reliable breaks they only run 2 trains at at a time. Like wouldn't they tap each other at times?
29yrswithaGApass
At times, yes! When they did a park-wide safety study in 1988 three train operations was one of the first things to go.
eric2
well i think the runaway mine trains 4 train wouldn't be sold because if one got broken they would have a spare for the ride
gasmspiritblue
I would think that they hit!!!!! One time when my uncle worked on it and it was raining only operating 1 train and he said it just flew trough the station on to the lift. VERY DANGEROUS!!!!!!! gafreak
how is it possible to even run four trains at once, has anyone actually ever seen it done?

I don't think that is even possible, cause with 3 train operation Harry said they would attest tap at times.
GAcoaster
It was designed for four train operation, and actually ran with four trains early on. With no air gates and a large crew it was much faster to load and unload. I've seen film of the RMT where the trains would hit that brake going into the station and come to a full stop (with everyone getting violently thrown into the lap bars). With the original configuration, you only had to check one lap bar on each car, so it was pop it open, guests get out, guests get in, push the bar down and read to dispatch in 30-45 seconds. Back then they didn't have the "I'm going to sue you over anything" mentality, so it didn't matter if there were people still walking on the exit platform as trains were leaving and arriving, People had common sense enough to stand back and out of the way and if they didn't it was there own fault, not the park's. GAcoaster
It's partly safety has been beefed up, but also common sense has disappeared.
gasmspiritblue
True, i feel like now if they didin't have air gates or make anyone leave the station before dispatching someone would of got very hurt by now!
29yrswithaGApass
Check out the "4th Train" zooming into the station in 1974 HERE. What speed!

Yoshi
It's amazing to think the ride ran with 4 trains or even 3 trains. Now with 2 trains it seems like there is almost always some stacking.
gasmspiritblue
Sometimes with 2 trains running i wait in the breaks for about a minute or two they are really slow now!!
GAcoaster
When you cut staffing that's what happens. All the parks rides used to run with nearly double the staff they do now, but as a cost cutting measure they were all cut over the years. gasmspiritblue
That's very true with the budget cuts
gafreak
wow, that train wass hauling a$$ into the station, also, it appears in the film that the sky ride had cars very close together on the cables and it looks like they stopped it to unload guests
gasmspiritblue
That's a possibility or high winds cause it looks very windy!!!!!
