Railer
Well, i originally wrote this thread as "CONFIRMED" way back on May 17th, when i got confirmation they were coming down. So after all this time now, here is the pile of rubble that needed to be there for it to say "CONFIRMED" lol. I actually don't think the Park ever made a statement on this, so it proves the point a PR dept is not needed for "Confirmation". It's all in good fun, the "passion" everyone has for the Park is what count's. But sad day in the Park, alot of memories, for alot of people are being ripped down. But this is going to transform the "Heart" of the Park, the Lakefront will be really spectacular when it's all said and done. Even in this 1st pic you can get the idea of how great the new open view's will be. Edited August 24, 2015 by Railer

ScreamSource
Im now hearing that a blue track, black supports S&S Free Spin and a new stadium in the Lakefront will be coming in 2016. Along with a nightly firework show. If this is actually right, hallelujah for 2016!!
29yrswithaGApass
I spy with my eye a vintage sign in one of Railer's photos ! It is from the Sylvester Scooters in Bugs Bunny Land! I hope the park will save the photo if it can.
Railer
I noticed that sign. They pulled off the grandstand's sign before they tore the Wall down, here it is in the Grass.
29yrswithaGApass
I was hoping they would save the sign. So happy they did!
Railer
I was hoping they would save the sign. So happy they did! The smaller one on the Left side was removed also. Didn't notice it anywhere on the Ground. But it has to be somewhere.
Chiller
I thought of you Harry while there, on my one Video i have footage of them ripping one of the Original Light Fixtures out of the ground. That actually got me, and made me a little sad. I think me and your rep were only ones left taking pics. Wait, I was there taking pictures and video from a little before 1:00 until 4:00. 29yrswithaGApass
Once upon a time, the Great Lake Grandstand was new. I took this photo from the Log Flume on March 31, 1983 - the season opener that year. Cameras were allowed on rides back then. As you can see, the stadium was still under construction. jdc12192
Almost fully down in just that short time. (Via GADV onlines FB page) The view of the lake is going to be fantastic now without structures blocking the view.
alden97
I was at the park today and this was sad to see. Why, at the very least, couldn't these have been donated to a high school or other organization?
Mrpq
it probably coast more to dismantle and ship and reassemble that's why. but that would have been a good idea. Then again do any of use really know the shape they where in on the under side?

Railer
The Park is most likely "scrapping" the Metal, that's tens of thousand's of dollar's worth of Scrap. Depend's on the deal with the Demolition company though, sometimes they get to scrap the Metal they remove. Unless the Park is doing it themselves, and just rented those special Backhoe's. I'm not sure though, i never looked into who is actually doing this work.
Mrpq
isn't there usually a sign up saying who does the work? I know sometimes the company name is on the trucks too and I don't see anything

29yrswithaGApass
^ Not much has changed since yesterday. You can see the stands off to the left in his photo.
Matt Kaiser
The container on site says Lucas Construction Group. Their headquarters is down the road from my house! I always used to pass it thinking "hm, I've never actually seen them out constructing anything.."
Railer
The front wall, to the left of the entrance to the "Aqua Stadium" is gone. They have started it's demolition.
Railer
Here is a pic from today of the status of the "Aqua Stadium". (Pic from TPM) I will head out to the Park on the 3rd for an update. By the end of next week, all that will be left is a wide open view of the Lake.
