p_loots
Although I don't think this is the best addition, it's great to finally see Six Flags giving Hurricane Harbor some much needed love. Unless I'm mistaken, the park's last addition was big wave racer in 2013. It'd be great to see a new slide in the coming years. I haven't been since 2014, and now with Cobra gone, there are less slides now than the last time I visited.
Pineracer
Guess that means that's replacing King Cobra. They got a clone of what Six Flags America got in 2016 the same year
29yrswithaGApass
Caribbean Cove was added in 2016.
jdc12192
While its great to have another pool coming, I feel we desperately need a new slide complex (or two)!
Medusa42
The "artist rendering" at the bottom of the nj.com article cracked me up. https://www.nj.com/expo/life-and-culture/g66l-2019/01/21a5c34f1f72/six-flags-great-adventure-plans-big-hurricane-harbor-expansion-for-2019.html

Tbone112499
Calypso Springs will definitely improve capacity. Even though it’s replacing King Cobra, it definitely allows for more people than a single slide would. I think it’s a necessary addition, but let’s hope for a slide/water coaster in the next few years. The trend seems to be an addition every 2-4 years. Maybe a new slide by 2023? scott
This seems like a great addition to me. A slide would be great but I think this is better for now. I like this move.
hollyferry
I love that they are adding this-it really is needed. But I almost wish they would repair the current attractions first. The large bucket area (I don't think I actually know it's name lol) is in sad shape. Very few of the effects work any longer. Same for the Tak Et Eeez Creek. The Master
I think it is kind of surprising as family activity pools are old fashioned waterpark attractions. Still it makes sense and can take loads off thd lazy river and wave pool. That one rendering looks like it was photoshopped by a kid, lol. Lemur
Awesome, a new food stand to not be open even though the park is at capacity. I really, really, really wish - moreso even than I wish for water coast - that the water park has better staffing levels this year and can keep more attractions open longer. GAcoaster
I noticed they were hiring Food Service at $11.50 an hour, so hopefully they can attract enough people to work there.
Coaster Justin
They need planning and permission to build a pool on their own property?
GAcoaster
Yes, anyone building needs permission to build something.

They had wages like this all of last year and it didn't seem to help much, besides probably just holding onto more employees. They even had strange "sales" on jobs/wages which was really odd, such as getting 25 cents more each weekend you stay during Fright Fest. lol

Welcome to NJ. You need planning and permits to do just about anything. Kidding aside, the park is within the boundaries of Jackson Township, so it sits on incorporated land. Therefore, it's subject to Jackson's zoning ordinance. I believe they're in a special zone though. Edited February 5, 2019 by Lemur

I'm already dreading the impact of $15 minimum wage to staffing levels. It wasn't fun during the bankruptcy in '09 when they'd cut everything down to bare bones.

I wouldn't be surprised, by the time 2026 rolls around, if there isn't some sort of special status for seasonal employees though.

hollyferry
I know that Calyspo Springs is opening soon. At the Wonder Woman event, they the date listed on the slideshow playing while promoting the new pins. Anyone know if that is the 28th (same as the member appreciation day) or the 21st? Matt Kaiser
June 28th is the "Calypso Springs Launch Party" / Member Appreciation Event. The description says "Be the first to relax and enjoy the all new Calypso Springs with exclusive access before it's open to the public! Enjoy specialty beverages and collect your Calypso Springs pin." That's fast approaching, and they haven't created the Facebook event or released the schedule yet, so we'll see if that's still on track.
