WILD RUMOR: Speed - The Ride Coming Back to the Sahara Las Vegas

There is a wild rumor going around that Speed - The Ride will be returning to the new Sahara Las Vegas.  The new owner of the SLS Las Vegas is converting the casino resort back into the Sahara Las Vegas and has started renovating the property.  It appears all of the footers and concrete tunnel were demolished during the conversion to SLS Las Vegas, so the cost of rebuilding the footers and tunnel might be the biggest obstacle to reinstalling the ride.

Have also talked to our Team Park Journey Las Vegas Expert (RD) who said that despite the ride sitting out in the Vegas sun since 2011 it is in excellent condition. And while it would need some "TLC", it wouldn't take much.

In addition, the trains are not out in the open and are in fact in storage containers. But would also need some TLC of course.

If the ride does reopen, it will be be good to see another higher quality coaster in the area. With El Loco closed and probably not reopening anytime soon if at all and Desperado SBNO, there isn't a lot to choose from unless someone wants to ride Canyon Blaster over and over.

Interesting idea. It was a good ride-- I thought it was better than Chiller.

The Batman side at least had the unusual inverted tophat which I really liked. Speed looks like it was longer than Chiller.

Rollercoaster denied.

He also shot down rumors. The renovations will not include a rollercoaster – in its final years the Sahara was home to “Speed-The Ride.” Also, NASCAR Café, which was home to the six-pound, two-foot-long burrito of “Man versus Food” fame, is not returning.

“That was a Sahara of a different era,” Hobson said.

Seems like many of the 90's LIM coasters have been dismantled, Chiller, Speed, Volcano, etc. I heard many times that Las Vegas is getting away from  the family amusements they pushed in the 90's and are now focusing on the rich young adult partying types now. That is why they say many of the family amusements are being shut down and removed in Vegas.
