  1. Great Adventure will definitely still be around in ten years.
  2. To everyone saying the park doesn't have enough family coasters now that Rolling Thunder is gone: 1. The Dark Knight 2. Skull Mountain 3. Runaway Mine Train 4. Blackbeard's Lost Treasure Train How many other parks have this kind of a lineup? Look at Dorney, they have two family coasters. Hershey has 3-4 depending on what you consider to be a family coaster. Do you think families just ride roller coasters? They don't. Go to another amusement park and see. You'll notice families go on more flats than they do coasters. Those of you posting that clearly haven't been to that many parks. Once you go to more you will see how good the family coaster selection at Great Adventure is.
  3. They wouldn't remove one of their most popular coasters. There is a five-ten year plan for the park. There are many areas that could be improved before any major coasters are added. (Examples: more flats, more water rides). I would not say that a new addition besides a coaster is awful planning. Great Adventure already has 5 B&M's and 2 giant Intamin creations, which is a very solid lineup.
  4. Besides for the great views, The Great White did not impress me. It was smooth though.
  5. That will happen at any park near large cities. It just happens. Six Flags America and New England have far rougher crowds then Great Adventure.... That's disgusting. Hopefully you went to the management when you saw that happen.
  6. As said above, it's mostly the crew that doesn't care (although the operators were awesome last weekend). But also it is because the trains are in bad shape. I've seen it where the other train is back before they are finished unlocking all the lap bars. The trains are also very low, so the operators have to squat down much further to check then on the other coasters. The old skids also slow down loading. Instead of having the second train parked a couple feet behind the first one, like on newer coasters, Rolling Thunder's trains stop far down the brake run. Then, they also need to fully stop the train right outside of the station before letting it unload. This takes time.
  7. Honestly. I'm not expecting much. I don't think they would ever move Hurricane Harbor. They could easily run shuttle buses between the two and only have one ticket for both... But it wouldn't make sense to move all the existing slides. I also can't imagine them reopening Old Country when they now have this huge area (where Rolling Thunder is) to develop and expand. 2015 - Since 2014 is all about thrills, a new kids area near Kingda Ka or a refurbishment of the current ones. Maybe a family flat or two. If there is a new kiddie area there probably wouldn't be the budget for a new coaster. The children's rides aren't the super expensive part, but staffing them is along with maintaining 5-10 rides. 2016 - A new coaster near the base of Kingda Ka. Most likely a wingrider or smaller wood coaster). 2017 - Hopefully another expansion to the new area where Rolling Thunder is. I would like a small spinning coaster, or family suspended coaster, but those wouldn't bring in huge crowds. Another possibility would be a new water ride back by Kingda Ka. Great Adventure desperately needs water rides. I think that during this time the park also needs to be re-branded. Locals see the park as an overpriced way to spend a day. People love the rides, but the park itself doesn't have a good reputation. Six Flags needs to prove that this is a high quality theme park, not just a Six Flags. And I'm hoping to do this they take a year and instead of using the new rides budget for new attractions, use it for park improvements. Most people will notice the differences. Six Flags could even market the changes (better crowd control, better ride operations, better landscaping, better food, rides running with less downtime)... If I were in control this would be my highest priority.
  8. I'm really excited about this ride! But, probably more excited for the future expansions in Rolling Thunders area. El Toro's area is going to see very empty now.
  9. I think I am changing my mind... Before I thought there was no way they would remove Rolling Thunder. But now, after looking at Google Maps I can see where people are coming from when they say Rolling Thunder is leaving. A path leading to Ka would easily fit where RT's first drop currently is. That would clear up so much space for a new area, and many new attractions. It really could help make both areas feel more complete. (And that could help explain why they are in no rush to reopen Rolling Thunder's right side). I am almost certain this new attraction will not be a coaster. We would have seen some sort of work done already....Whether it be ground clearing or footers being poured. Unless it's a smaller coaster... One week til we find everything out!
  10. Interesting Topic! Since I have only been to 3 six flags parks I may not have the best suggestions though... Six Flags Over Texas- Nothing new... Reopen Giant and Shockwave Six Flags Over Georgia- Waterpark expansion Six Flags St. Louis- Aqua Twist, Boss refurbishment Six Flags Great Adventure- Drop Tower, Rolling Thunder Refurbishment, A couple new flats Six Flags Magic Mountain- Several flats added around the park Six Flags Great America- Family launched coaster without inversions Six Flags America- B&M Wingrider between Batwing and Superman Six Flags Fiesta Texas- Skycoaster The Great Escape- Maurer Sohne spinning mouse Six Flags Discovery Kingdom- Vekoma Suspended family coaster near waterfront Six Flags New England- Star Flyer in Catapult's former spot Six Flags Mexico- RMC Medusa La Ronde- General Park Rehab
  11. ^ Nope. El Toro uses Intamin trains, Texas Giant uses Gerstlauer trains.
  12. I still don't believe the Rolling Thunder rumors. It really isn't too rough, especially for it's age. I have been on FAR rougher coasters...Even Twister at Knoebels was rougher! It's still fairly popular (probably more-so than the Runaway Mine Train), and the park has recently spent a good amount of time and resources repairing the ride. Plus, it wouldn't make sense to begin a new sponsorship in July (Twix) when they plan on removing the ride at the end of the season. What Rolling Thunder needs is a major refurbishment. The old skids and trains need to go. A couple of the hills after the first turnaround could use a retracking, along with the final turn into the brakes. Rolling Thunder has tons of potential. It could be one of the best coasters in the park. It doesn't need to be removed and it wouldn't make sense for Six Flags to remove it.
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8F5JUC6QHtY - Link to offride video! Ride will feature vest-restraints as seen on wingriders!
  14. The last time I remember was this past spring... But that's probably due to the fact the right side hasn't operated in over a month now.
  15. There was HEAVY drug use in the park on Saturday. I saw many people smoking joints around the park (including the people directly in front of me in line for Nitro). People were also using drugs in the bathrooms. The person next to me on Bizarro was high... And same with the person next to me on Nitro.
  16. I'm finally going to Knoebels this Thursday!
  17. An aqua twist would be great for the park... Both a flat and a water ride.
  18. ^There were people climbing the tracks on the 4th.
  19. Was Rolling Thunder open at all? It was closed the whole time I was at the park yesterday.
  20. Sorry to double post and bump an old topic... But I forgot to post I rode this ride! And the verdict is... Don't go out of your way to ride it. Funplex is crazy overpriced and the ride was kinda bad. It was pretty rough and snapped my head around as it engaged the chain. It's nice they are expanding, but they should have gotten a different ride, by a more well known company.
  21. Yes... Please keep going. I always check them (although I rarely reply).
  22. I was really surprised to see Rolling Thunder running two trains in the light rain yesterday. I thought the skids weren't supposed to work well when they get wet.
  23. At SFNE do not pass on Thunderbolt or Cyclone... They are both really great rides!
