The Master
That is good news to hear first time I heard about Old Country reopening. SF probably wants to put in a new anchor ride in that section when it reopens cause didn't they shut down OC because of the loss of Chiller which was the anchor ride there? Are they still planning to clear Old Country out and start from a clean slate? Edited February 21, 2009 by The Master
rcji
I totally forgot to ask also if they mentioned about re-opening the bridge too? Edited February 22, 2009 by rcji
GAcoaster
The bridge should be re-opened this season (though maybe not for opening day depending on what's going on with Medusa).
29yrswithaGApass
On the tour it sounded as if Autobahn had a better chance of opening over the Musik Express. In my opinion, the area behind The Dark Knight and Chiller, as well as the SpinMeister and Musik Express sites, creates a large parcel of land centrally located in the park which is prime real estate for a major addition to an enhanced Old Country. ChrisChavan
^Very nicely worded, Harry. I believe you are thinking on the right track. This is the way I see Old Country's fate as well.
southview2
Can anyone say, new coaster for 2010. =]
ChrisChavan
^I wish. I would love to hear a big announcement for a new coaster. It's such a rush to know your home park is getting a new coaster. But if they build one I want it to be a big thrilling ride. Not another Family Coaster. DarkKnight
I don't know about the poor economy... hopefully we will get a THRILL ride for 2010 Edited February 24, 2009 by DarkKnight
warnerleroy
I just realizerd how much sense the park doesn't make. For example, they are closing the Old Country because it's not too much of a popular section and will reopen it when there are so many crowds it's needed. But why close Houdini then, which is one of the most popular rides in the park, and on busy days, has longer lines than somecoasters? It's like closing FMTTM and then clising Kingda Ka or El TOro. GAcoaster
The decision on Houdini was not made at the park level.
The Master
Didn't they close Old Country because of the loss of it's anchor ride Chiller to draw in most of the people to that section?
GAcoaster
They closed Old Country to reduce the staffing needed. Between the rides, the games and the food stands that small area required a LOT of people to run things, and for a dead area it just didn't make sense. JetsDevs4Lyf
As odd a question as this is did they still have the rental cabanas set up outside the Old Country Gate?
GAcoaster
Yep, they're still there, furniture and all.
JetsDevs4Lyf
Cool. I don't know why I was even curious but I guess I wanted to see if they were worthwhile enough for the park to keep around this year or not.
GAcoaster
The cabanas are run by an outside contractor.
JetsDevs4Lyf
See that I didn't know. I thought the park simply ran them and had decided to place them in the park last year since they had been inside of HH before that point. I guess I can understand that if someone else is running it that it would still be around. Edited March 4, 2009 by JetsDevs4Lyf
GAcoaster
The company that runs them also runs the ones in Hurricane Harbor. They make A LOT of money from those.
Railer
The ones in HH are pretty nice. They are a great idea for a Water Park if you have kids. They provide a little "home base" to call your own for a long day at the Park.
The Master
They closed Old Country to reduce the staffing needed. Between the rides, the games and the food stands that small area required a LOT of people to run things, and for a dead area it just didn't make sense. That is what I meant since that area became dead with the loss of Chiller which was the main draw for people to that area. And until they can built a new big draw in Old Country it will probably stay closed. Also didn't the cabanas in GAdv did not do very well since they kept cutting the price for them?
