29yrswithaGApass
Six Flags and Samsung Introduce World’s First Fully Interactive Roller Coaster Gaming ExperienceAll-New Virtual Reality Adventure Puts Riders in the Center of the Action August 05, 2016 05:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, (NYSE: SIX), and Samsung Electronics America, Inc., the “Official Technology Partner” of the world’s largest regional theme park company, today announced the next evolution of Virtual Reality experiences coming to eight parks this fall. The company that introduced North America’s first VR Coasters earlier this year, using Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus - is taking thrill-seekers on an all-new 360 degree adventure in Rage of the Gargoyles, a chilling, futuristic battle between good and evil featuring the first-ever interactive roller coaster gaming experience. “The guest response to the virtual reality coasters at our parks has been outstanding, further solidifying Six Flags as the world leader in innovative rides and attractions,” said Six Flags President and CEO John Duffey. “One of the most exciting things about this technology is that we have the ability to change the storylines to offer our guests new thrills and new reasons to visit our parks. Just like the Superman and New Revolution VR Coasters currently operating in nine of our parks, Rage of the Gargoyles will be another first for our guests.” “What’s been so great about our partnership with Six Flags is that it’s perfectly in line with Samsung’s mission to bring Samsung Gear VR and virtual reality technology to the masses,” said Marc Mathieu, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung Electronics America. “More and more people will get to experience VR for the first time through this totally unique and immersive experience.” In Rage of the Gargoyles, riders - wearing Samsung Gear VR headsets - are pilots seated in the cockpit of an Apache-style helicopter. With a devastated cityscape as the backdrop, a fleet of choppers prepares to battle an army of terrorizing, winged creatures. The action-packed adventure begins when riders ascend up the coaster’s lift hill as the blood-thirsty gargoyles mercilessly attack the copter’s fragile glass barrier. The epic on-screen conflict quickly accelerates as the high-definition imagery synchs perfectly to the coaster’s movements sending riders twisting, turning and diving through the hazardous city streets - flying over battered skyscrapers, plunging underneath twisted bridges and dodging falling debris, all while shooting to repel these lethal demons and conquer the vicious master gargoyle. A surprise ending to this fully-immersive virtual odyssey will leave guests breathless, and ready to experience Rage of the Gargoyles over and over again. This groundbreaking VR coaster gaming experience does not need a touchpad or buttons to activate, allowing riders to keep their hands on the lap bar as they shoot. Instead, the mounted Gatling guns on the helicopters are controlled through head movements and as soon as an attacker is targeted, the weapon automatically fires. Target tracking graphics will display in HMD (Head Mounting Display) style to demonstrate the autofire function. Rage of the Gargoyles will debut on the following eight roller coasters: Demon at Six Flags Great America near Chicago; Skull Mountain at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey; Shock Wave at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington; Kong at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom near San Francisco; Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia outside of Atlanta; Goliath at La Ronde in Montreal; Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis in Eureka; and Steamin’ Demon at The Great Escape in Lake George, New York. jdc12192
Hmm interesting. I can only hope for a possible transformation for HITP which I think would be wonderful. Hopefully the kinks have been and will be worked out so we can run it at the best of our abilities.
Nitro1118
One thing I give our park credit for is they do really care about capacity. I'm sure they had some say in putting it on Skull Mountain instead of Nitro, Toro, etc...
SatansHockey
I'm thrilled that this isn't on Nitro. This version sounds exactly like the fighter jet one with aliens except they just replaced them with gargoyles lol
scott
I enjoy trying the new things we get at Great Adventure no matter how good or bad people think they are so I'm looking forward to this and to see what it adds to Skull Mountain. Viper26
I like that the VR isn't going on Nitro but seeing Skull Mountain get it seems logical as it is not as popular as other coasters despite their operations being more superior than Nitro. I am thinking dispatches could be every three to seven minutes on Skull Mountain compared to the typical 10 to 20 minutes on others.
owtoty
I think it's cool that it's going to skull mountain. I'm excited to see what it's like, but since the line will probably be long most of the time I won't ride it that often. I really wish they had better versions though. For what I've seen the ones that they have now don't look that great at all. That'd be cool if they made really scary one's for fright fest. I also don't really like the automatic shooting part. I'd rather just look around and have the option to shoot rather than it just shooting everywhere when I'm trying to look at stuff.
Yoshi
If VR was going to be added, Skull Mountain or Runaway Mine Train would have probably been one of my top choices. I'm hesitant to try it in a coaster with inversions or big drops like Nitro but a tamer coaster that is shorter than other coasters might convince me to try it. I hope they keep the back row for non VR. I know in past years during Fright Fest, they had an overflow queue set up. They will probably really need it this year more often with how popular it will probably be.
Coaster Justin
VR on an SLC? Ouch Is this Fright Fest related?
Sluggo77
I'm hesitant to try it in a coaster with inversions or big drops like Nitro but a tamer coaster that is shorter than other coasters might convince me to try it. After riding Superman VR at SFNE the VR actually makes the larger drops feel much smaller. You shouldn't be worried about that.
Pineracer
I would think Bizzaro would have made more sense
GAnerd
^ well it could be possible that this is a test to see if VR could work in the park and possibly make its way to bizzaro for 2017

SatansHockey
What about for people who don't want to wear the VR? You don't have to wear it but you still have to wait in the lines which will be longer.

Louisatsweetlou
If they put a rope in the middle of the queue to separate VR and non VR people that would be the best way to do it. Then, have a worker in front of the station assigning rows. Have the non VR line keep going until the VR people are all strapped in then let the VR people go on the next ride. This way operations are not affected on the line without VR. Great idea having it on skull mountain though

"exclusive access" seems like nobody else will be able to ride but the people mentioned, and that it'll only be VR. I could be wrong.
