Medusa42
This is the place to discuss 2020 news, rumors, and predictions for all Cedar Fair parks. Rules: 1) Feel free to post 2020 park predictions, but please do not post five year or multi-year park plan predictions. Below are two slides that highlight changes to the long-term strategy. Note that Cedar Fair will now spend money across all parks every year, but it could just be a new show, experience, event, or restaurant instead of a new ride. Large investments (expensive rollercoasters) will now be spaced out over a longer period of time at parks but will still occur. ericthewanderer
It's good to see Cedar Fair "up their game" in that way;although coasters and other thrill rides are the main reason I go to any park,I appreciate other features like shows and special events. And is that "Forbidden Frontier" anything like what Disney is/was doing?I remember Disney had something called "Treasure Hunt" that was an interactive search around Adventureland, and it featured animatronic displays that were hidden/disguised by themeing. GAcoaster
Kind of surprised that they haven't rolled Winter Fest out at Dorney yet. With all the parks around them (Hershey, Sesame, Great Adventure) all doing Christmas, it seems strange that they're not. It seems like it could be a great tie-in to all the Christmas events that take place in Bethlehem.

Christmas is insane here and I'm also shocked Dorney doesn't try to capitalize on it. It'd be nice to have another event venue besides Christkindlmarket over by the Sands casino. Pineracer
CA Great America: Water Park Canada's Wonderland: Frontier Canada experience (like what CP is getting this year) Carowinds: retrack (not RMC) Hurler, new restaurant/general improvements Cedar Point: B&M Junior Invert in Planet Snoopy, return of food offerings, season goes to just before Thanksgiving (still no Winterfest) Dorney Park: GCI replaces Dinosaurs Alive! or Stinger, Winterfest (at least the latter, hopefully) KD: small Water Park, demo mountain/Volcano KI: Everyone is saying a Giga, but its a B&M at least Knott's: flats or Water Park/General Improvements Michigan's Adventure: Kids Area/Gate Area improvements Valleyfair: small Water Park, Excalibur removed in off season ('19-'20 or '20-'21) Worlds of Fun: New Gate/general improvements, prep for next coaster (2021/2022) --------------------------------------------- Ideas for those experience things Knott's-Done Cedar Point-Done Canada's Wonderland: Across from Yukon themed to Frontier Canada (mining theme?) Great America: remove Orbit and Rapids and themed to Australia's Gold Rush (as it's next to Boomarang Bay. CW reskin?) Carowinds: Rapids spot with Ozark/Smokies theme (even though Blue Ridge Junction is on the other side of the park) KD: Go-Karts/Dinosaurs Alive! area themed to Jamestown/colonial times KI: area beyond X-Base, Outpost 5 theme World's of Fun: There's a lot of space behind Patriot-reuse Orient Express queue for entrance; could be a reskin of CP's Valleyfair: Replace Rapids/Xcalibur ; Viking Skin of KD's story, water park gains a Nordic theme and name to fit Michigan's Adventure: Replaces Timbertown Railway (can relocate train behind kiddie coasters); Treasure of Poverty Island (cheap knock off of CP's) Dorney: Where GCI is not; no idea for theme but would probably be a reskin
Medusa42
Now that Cedar Fair is working with Feld Entertainment (Monster Jam) in 2019, I am curious if a Cedar Fair park will receive the B&M wing coaster concept that was shown off at IAAPA. The Grave Digger Freestyle Run is a lower capacity B&M wing coaster that only seats 20 riders per train. https://www.feldentertainment.com/PressRoom/DisplayPressRelease/94602/ Quote Florida-based Feld Entertainment® is a first-time exhibitor at the IAAPA Convention, as the company looks to expand into the amusement and attractions industry. The astonishing IAAPA booth focuses on two of Feld Entertainment’s largest and most recognizable brands: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey®, the first live entertainment franchise in American history; and Monster Jam®, the unexpected, unscripted and unforgettable larger-than-life sport. In addition, Feld Entertainment can provide the same amazing services it uses to build its world-class productions in-house to create any attraction, experience or live event possible including concepting, design, fabrication, construction, touring, costume design, live event and live show production, merchandise design and sourcing, and more. Grave Digger Freestyle Run will allow guests to experience backflips, corkscrews, saves and big air moments that the real Grave Digger drivers experience in their 12,000 lb. Monster Jam trucks during Freestyle competitions. Edited April 11, 2019 by Medusa42
Yoshi
If a wooden coaster isn’t added, that is something I would like to see a Dorney since they could get away with a lower capacity ride more than one of the larger parks in the chain.
Medusa42
That's what I was thinking too. I don't think Dorney needs the picnic area at the front of the park anymore now that they have the new dining area at the back of the park. It might be a good place for a wing coaster. Medusa42
Clermont Steel Fabricators is currently building two Mega Coasters. MCR is brown and is believed to be the Hyper coaster for Hershey Park. MCT appears to be a Giga coaster and could be for Kings Island. The current thought is that MCS was for the Hyper coaster at California's Great America and might be postponed for another year. This would be similar to what happened with the Dive coasters at Cedar Point and Canada's Wonderland. Valravn was DMH and Yukon Striker was DMG after being delayed a few years. Author: Stephanie Metzger, Will Ujek Published: 5:37 PM EDT April 17, 2019 Updated: 5:42 PM EDT April 17, 2019 SANDUSKY, Ohio — Cedar Point fans have been buzzing with anticipation for the park's 150th season celebration next year. Rumors have ranged from new coasters to nostalgic food and characters from the past making a return. Though the park has remained tight-lipped on its plans for the year-long festivities, General Manager and Vice President Jason McClure hinted at one new attraction planned for 2020. During an interview with WKYC's Will Ujek on Wednesday, McClure stifled rumors of a mega roller coaster, noting that any major ride addition would already be under construction in the park for preparation for next summer. But McClure did reveal that some sort of new ride will be added in time for the 150th season. "It'd be weird to have an anniversary without some kind of ride," he said. The park will also ask visitors for their feedback on the 150th season. This summer, park goers can weigh in on retro items and pieces of nostalgia they'd like to see. Knott's Berry Farm: http://screamscape.com/html/knott-s_berry_farm.htm Quote 2020/2021 - New Attraction - (3/3/19) Screamscape sources tell us that some future plans to develop Knott’s Berry Farm into the future are being settled that may see the park expand a little bit more, taking over some of the backstage land. The site of the later may involve an expansion of Ghost Town into the nearby backstage area that could be ready sometime between late 2020 and 2021. The early rumors suggest the new section would incorporate a new coaster of some kind as well as a new flat ride or two. The coaster side of things is said to still be very much in development with no one design (or designer) in the lead yet for the project, though we did hear an interesting concept for one of the flat rides could be to bring one of those Gerstlauer Sky Roller kind of attractions to the park, possibly even with some kind of loose “homage” to the park’s former XK-1 as part of the themeing. Again, this is all just talk at this point, so nothing is confirmed. That said… it may be worth keeping an eye open when traveling through Ghost Town over the year for any sign of construction surveying markers, stakes or paint. California's Great America: It appears the park might get a water park renovation for 2020. http://coaster-nation.com/californias-great-america-2020-plans-revealed/ Kings Dominion: With the above information and the fact that Carowinds and Canada's Wonderland just received major coaster additions in 2019, it appears that one or two of the smaller Cedar Fair parks could get a new coaster in 2020.
