A note to our guests about the Coronavirus from CEO Mike Spanos

Dear Valued Guests,

The top priority at Six Flags is the safety and the well-being of our guests and team members. Regardless of the environment, this is our top priority every day. We also recognize and understand that you all have concerns about the coronavirus; therefore, I personally want to update you on everything that we are doing to provide a safe environment for you, your family, and our team members.

First, we are closely monitoring the latest developments and following the guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Additionally, we have hired a highly regarded infectious disease specialist with more than 30 years of experience as an advisor for this situation.

Second, we are taking several actions to help you feel confident about your health and safety while you are in our parks. We have significantly enhanced our cleaning and sanitation efforts on all guest and employee touch points; additionally, we are providing an abundance of anti-bacterial soap in all hand-washing stations, and have placed dozens of alcohol-based hand sanitizers throughout all areas of the parks. Finally, we are frequently cleaning and disinfecting all ride vehicles, queue lines, restrooms, food locations, and employee break areas.

In addition to these actions, we have increased hygiene signage throughout our parks and are strongly encouraging guests and employees to practice good hygiene with frequent and rigorous hand washing. We are asking employees who are sick to stay home. If anyone has a fever or becomes sick while at work, we will immediately release them to see their medical provider.

We hope that these measures give you confidence that we are taking the necessary precautions in this evolving situation. We remain committed to providing you and your family with friendly, clean, fast, and safe service.

For additional information about COVID-19, please read the latest report from the Centers for Disease Control at www.cdc.gov, or your local health department website.

On behalf of everyone at Six Flags, thank you for your trust in us. I look forward to seeing you out in our parks.

Best regards,

Mike Spanos

Is that chance coronavirus might go away by mid-late April, May, June or July or August soon if they will find a vaccine to kill all coronavirus?

According to MIT review, a vaccine for COVID-19 will take about 18 months to produce, though I'm seeing some other projected timelines for the end of 2020. If the virus is going to go away, it's not going to be going away due to the vaccine by summertime. As long as people follow healthy hygiene habits and go into quarantine as required, it will hopefully stop spreading.

That being said, I'm glad Six Flags is taking it seriously and is taking precautions. I also appreciate that they'll let employees stay home if they're sick.

That's means I'm gonna get affect by COVID-19 and I'm gonna die at Great Adventure or NYC? Is all people of USA will get COVID-19 by end of this month or April. I'm scared about this! Is Coronavirus will die soon in summertime as Memorial Day weekend or June?

Not necessarily. Some people who get the coronavirus don't even display symptoms. You're even less likely to die. For people over 50 years of age with immunodeficiencies or other health problems, the death rate is about 3.4% (But that's also a 94.6% survival rate, be positive!) And for people who are younger than 50 with no health problems, the death rate is a mere 0.2%. If you get sick, your doctor will take care of you. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, and look the other way if someone sneezes. And no, not everyone will be affected by this pandemic. Just try to remain calm. I just went to WDW last week three times and I'm perfectly fine. Generally people, other than some select cases, are following quarantine orders and staying out of the public sphere. When you go to Six Flags, just make sure you make use of the sanitizing stations.

The NBA Suspended for the Season.  Tom Hanks has the Virus.  In combination with everything, I don’t think it’s long before Six Flags continues with the trend.  This is especially considering the fact that no matter how much you tell people to wash their hands, people will still infect.

Not saying to not take precautions but also don’t get overhyped about it. Definitely is being taken more seriously around the country especially today but it doesn’t go from zero to die.

There's also some speculation that Six Flags may go into bankruptcy because of this: https://www.ccn.com/coronavirus-could-send-six-flags-into-its-second-bankruptcy/

People like to focus on Six Flags, but they should be worried about Cedar Fair.  Cedar Fair is leveraged more than Six Flags right now and just dumped a ton of money into hotels, a giga coaster, and events that will have disappointing return on investment this year.

I agree. Up until yesterday I thought things would be basically normal for the park season with a few extra precautions. Now with all these sports leagues suspending the season, even MLB likely suspending spring training with it being outdoors, I don't see how parks are going to not close.

Edit, and now Disneyland is closing:

I'm feel not so good now....now everything is doom...basketball games are cancelled...Six Flags Great Adventure might be next to be postponed to late April or early May. I can't feel like well now..I bet May would be much better soon. I feel nothing now...Help me...I might or not go to NYC next month. I wish this stupid coronavirus will be gone by June now. I'm sad about this one. I think I might not get coronavirus because I'm...I'm....I'm scared....What the heck is going on here? This month gives me more sad and nothing. Help me. Is Six Flags Great Adventure Opening Day and Jersey Devil's opening (June) would be still okay? Soon USA will have millions of coronavirus soon in few months. This like end of the world is coming soon. Nooo…..

You seem to be slightly overreacting a little... Maybe...

But seriously though, all of these places are closing or postponing so the Corona virus doesn't get worse, it is basically extreme precaution, the U.S is #8 on the amount of cases of the Virus in a country in the world.

So basically, be patient and just be careful, I think this whole virus thing is being blown out of proportion, mostly because it is new and we don't know if it will get worse than it has. Turns out we have been living with the flu every year, in the  19/20 season it has killed 20,000 Americans, and infected 34 million, just this country alone, but it happens every year so it isn't as big as a deal as something new, Corona will also infect you longer without you knowing, so that scares people a bit I guess.

Philly has cancelled the St Patrick's day parade for this year because of the Coronavirus. They also closed down the Wells Fargo Center ( formally Spectrum 2 ), until the end of March and banned all public gatherings over 1,000 people in Philly. Its possible the local parks may postpone opening this year due to the virus.

Walt Disney World will be closing Sunday.

I can’t remember the last time I had a two week vacation. I have big plans to try and get things done around the house, and baking, and maybe work on all my (long neglected) websites!

So coronavirus will go forever? NOOOOO! There will be more cancelled events, postponed theme parks, delaying movies, etc... in April-December 2020 possibity January-March 2021 too because STUPID VIRUS! Looks like Six Flags is doomed for virus. Six Flags Great Adventure is probably be doom too. I can't go to the park because the virus will go forever this year. Ugh....This summer will no longer have fun for me because stupid virus will KEEP GOING! I CAN'T STAND IT! PLEASE STOP SPREADING VIRUS TO THE USA! I WILL...I will never be happy at all this year. THANKS ALOT CORONAVIRUS! You screwed this up! I'm so worried about the virus's future now.....

You have to understand it's a new virus. They're still learning a lot of things about it such as its tendency to spread, its symptoms, who it affects, and treatment. Viruses like swine flu infected 61 million people and they were still able to eventually contain it. Once there's a definite cure and a vaccine for the coronavirus, cases will go down. Will it affect Six Flags? Probably. But it won't forever. You really just have to wait until we reach that point though.

I wouldn't say Great Adventure is going to open on time. With the lack of testing available for this virus, more people than we currently know probably have it and its only going to get worse. I'm not trying to be a downer, but it is only realistic. Phil Murphy has stated he urges gatherings over 250+ to be canceled, and he said he may enforce that rule soon. With the direction this disease seems to be going, I'd say opening day will 100% be delayed. C'est la vie!

SFA in Maryland announced they are delaying opening until sometime in April. That is the closet SF sister park to SFGAdv which indicates that GAdv will likely be delayed too. Both PA and DE have closed down all their schools for 2 weeks, NJ has closed many of their schools and plan to closevall of them.

Six Flags closed all their US parks through the end of March. SFA is only postponed because they were opening in March. They'll re-evaluate and make another decision towards the end of the month, but at this time, they're all scheduled to re-open in April.

SFGAm removed April from their calendar today, May 1st is now the current opening day.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 virus, Six Flags Great America will be delaying park opening for the 2020 season. Currently, opening day is expected to be May 1st. Everything is subject to change.

Gov Wolf just ordered all the restaurants in five PA counties to close down their dining rooms. Only take out and drive-thrus are allowed to be open for the next two weeks in the affected counties.
