gafreak
I always thought that i got more wet on this compared to the log flume, i would have liked to see it stick around after adventure rivers years!
ThemeParkRider
My parents always called it the moon flume too, but I never thought why it was called that.

The Hydro was around awhile after Adventure Rivers.
29yrswithaGApass
Does anyone remember the overhead sign just before the final drop on the Hydro Flume (seen in the photo below)? I don't recall ever seeing it and was wondering if it promoted Kodak, said remain seated, or something else?
gafreak
I dont think i remeber the sign but where was this pic taken from?
29yrswithaGApass
It was taken from a plane flyover in the Fall of 1978. (I wasn't in the plane! )
The Master
I don't remember seeing a sign like that. But I sure do miss the Hydro Flume.
ThemeParkRider
In my opinion, it was much more relaxing and smooth than the original. But, you can't beat the classics! Also, at what point did the ride seperate into two tracks? Its been so long I forget.
29yrswithaGApass
The track split at the top of the final drop (about 10 feet in front of the yellow boat in the picture) and merged into a single track back down the bottom of the drop. GAcoaster
That was supposed to increase capacity as well as handle the additional water volume used on a Hydro Flume.
ThemeParkRider
Thanks!
BMax
That was supposed to increase capacity as well as handle the additional water volume used on a Hydro Flume. How was it supposed to increase capacity?
GAcoaster
Because they could send a boat down one chute then the next much more rapidly than sending down a single chute...the spacing could be closer together in theory.
BMax
^oh I understand, so they had something like a swinging gate to direct the boats?
GAcoaster
Yep...and the boats would often get jammed in it.
ThemeParkRider
Would that decrease capacity?
Railer
Then I guess the "Turntable" must of been faster than the Log Flume's. The only way to increase capacity for the two drops, would be to increase the "dispatch". Now that I think about it, I think it was faster. I still miss this ride. The Master
Hershey Park's Coal Cracker flume is similar to the old Hydro flume, it even has working double chutes.
29yrswithaGApass
The lower swing gate can easily be seen at the bottom of the flume in this photo. Notice the boat in the photo came down the right drop and there is a boat waiting at the top of the left drop!
CablesEric
Then I guess the "Turntable" must of been faster than the Log Flume's. The only way to increase capacity for the two drops, would be to increase the "dispatch". Now that I think about it, I think it was faster. I still miss this ride. The speed of the turntable is adjustable on both rides, so the operator can attempt to maintain consistent spacing, depending on the number of boats in use. In a perfect world, there would be one boat entering the station just as the next boat leaves the station, but we rarely had all boats in operation at one time to allow for that. If I remember correctly, the Log Flume can run with a maximum of 30 boats, but we had 20 on average.
GAcoaster
I've heard that one of the new park President's goals is to get ALL boats running on the flume and rapids to boost their capacity.
Railer
Is there any early "word" on how he is? From that post it seem's he has some "plan's" and an "agenda" of how he want's thing's.
gafreak
over in wiggles world in the middle of the btidge theres still a shower head mounted to the bridge where the flume used to go under
coasterfan510
Sorry to bump an old thread, but the photos on the Hydro Flume's spotlight are all dead links.
29yrswithaGApass
Yep, it will be fixed and updated. I just need some time!
