  1. Just something vague that a passholder posted on a FB group regarding a conversation they'd had with a CSM about something being "in the works", so we'll have to wait and see.
  2. I think you'll see Rock N Rollercoaster rethemed to something Marvel sooner rather than later, especially with Black Panther doing what it's doing right now, though I personally think they'd be better off going with Ant-Man, but that's me. I think Black Panther deserves a more original concept than a retread of an existing right. They've multiple hour waits right now just to meet someone dressed up in a freaking Black Panther suit.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised if the big Labor Day and Black Friday sales disappear, to be honest with you. They're really trying to get everyone on-board with the memberships which is why they're rolling out the flashy perks with them. The twelve-month revenue stream would allow them to keep the warm-weather parks open year-round and it gives them cleaner financials for borrowing, if they so choose. I already read that they're looking to do something for current passholders to smooth some ruffled feathers over the disparity in what memberships on the platinum and up levels get as opposed to what the season pass bought them. Exactly. It makes it much easier to value the company for investors, easier to get credit as they can show 12 months of revenue, and as someone who spent a good five months deciding whether or not to cancel my membership after a bad break up (which I eventually kept), they're banking on people saying "Ehh, it's only $8/10/12/20 a month. I spend that on lunch," and keep rolling the pass on chance they *might* want to go later. Gotta love it when FOMO is a market motivator.
  4. I inquired about this as well and apparently, if you've held your membership (not pass) for a year, you can buy a new membership at your preferred level, transfer the dining and cancel the old membership. I have not actually tried this myself, so I would recommend contacting someone at SF about the practicalities of doing this. It also subsidizes Magic Mountain being open 12 months a year.
  5. Once they hit rock bottom and can find a way to safely rid themselves of the captive orcas, maybe.
  6. That sounds like a retread of the Geauga Lake/Worlds of Adventure/Seaworld Ohio disaster.
  7. Would we all smell like french fries after going on the safari if they did that?
  8. Well, if climate change keeps up ... I can see the Texas parks going year-round and maybe Georgia.
  9. Yeah, going back and reading their hype and puffery, they're super-non-specific in which is first and whatnot but I do sit corrected. I'd stand, but it's Friday and its hard to type standing. As for the solar power ... I'm still trying to figure out if the people who think the park will close if it's cloudy or rainy are for real.
  10. I just don't want to have to wear my heavy down parka for a while.
  11. They never said they were getting the first Tourbillion. They said they were getting the world's first ride themed to Cyborg. They probably hope to have GA's solar array up and producing before the other two parks. The devil is, as usual, in the details and semantics.
  12. Yeah, it's currently listed as being on the refurb schedule. And unlike NJT and the MTA, instead of just cancelling trains, they're adding a gondola skyway. Granted, it will take a little while to get it running, but I personally think it's a cool alternative. (Also, the fact that they're adding PTC to the monorail amuses me to no end.)
  13. That's repulsive. Though 13 year old me would have called it cool.
  14. From reading the press release, it looks like that may be the case - "Upon completion of the major, students would receive a bachelor’s degree in resort and attraction management". If it was just hotels and resorts, it would be a BA in Hospitality Management. Interesting note, a lot of school that offer degrees in Sports Management or Sports Analytics say their coursework includes theme parks. Things you'd never consider, but then again, marketing and running a sports team really isn't that far off from running a theme park, I guess.
  15. I can't imagine they'll have much of an issue if they're actually clawing back plans that were already approved (unless I'm mistaken and they didn't have ZBA approval for the bigger solar field).
  16. I think you're trying to compare apples and oranges. They point of the IP is to appeal to two separate yet complementary audiences. They aren't competing. But let's not inflate their importance either. If you dressed the character staff purely in superhero outfits and put them front and center at the fountain, they're take as many pictures as the Looney Tunes characters. I don't think anyone is showing up at the park solely to meet Tweety Bird or Batman. They could drop all of the IP theming entirely and go with generic kiddie and coaster theming and the only thing that may show a downward tick in performance would be the photo sales, which they could easily make up with opening up a couple of closed ride photo stands.
  17. They haven't been bad. They've been purely mediocre since 2010. They've missed the playoffs three out of six years since their last Cup run and acknowledge they're rebuilding under Hextal. Consider the sheer weight of the terrible contracts they were carrying over from the Holmgren/Clarke era and the fact that they still don't have a franchise goalie, they've actually done better than they've had any right to do. Big things are on the way for this team (the blue line is sooooo much stronger than it's been since Pronger was forced to retire), provided one of their goalie prospects pans out and no one gets trade-happy.
  18. As long as you're not obnoxious and make a spectacle of yourself, people generally don't care. You might get the occasional raised eyebrow, but generally people are cool unless you act like a tool. (And the same goes for NYC fans. I've gone to the Rock and Citifield in Flyers/Phils gear and never had a problem. Most people just want to know how you got your tickets to see if you'd bought from a season ticket holder or if the tickets were retail. Occasionally I've run into problems at the Garden, but it's usually some drunken yabbo who thinks he's being funny right up until another Rangers fans sets him straight. Which is the thing, most fans are cool. It's the drunks who think bullying people is the height of hilarity that are the problem. I've been present when Eagles fans started heckling Giants fans who were just walking past and other Eagles fans told them to shut the hell up. It ended in Eagles fan on Eagles fan violence. Zero police horses were punched. As for the Sixers ... I haven't watched them since the Iverson era and quite frankly don't care about the NBA. The Big 5 City Series though, that's something else.
  19. Ehhh. It wasn't that bad. Nothing the fans do can be worse than when the Mayor bombed his own citizens.
  20. The argument can be made that more people in Jackson commute to NYC than to Philadelphia, so it's culturally and economically tied more closely to NYC. But yes, very fuzzy.
  21. I'm well familiar with the rebel yell - it was actually a hunting cry that the Confederates took up. Still stupid. It could also be named after a Billy Idol song. Retheme the cars to late 80's punk rock and keep the name.
  22. Stupid. Confederate history aside, Virigina was an original 13 colony that rebelled against the British crown. No reason to do this unless it's heavily CSA themed.
