ThemeParkRider
On the first picture, is that the log flume you can see?
TombraiderTy
I love all the spotlights on this site- they're all very detailed and informative. It's also amazing how many photos there are- with my home park, Kings Island, I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to find construction photos from a project only ten-years-old, but there are dozens of pictures here for things that are thirty-years old and aren't even that "important", like a roller coaster. Very impressive. -Ty
29yrswithaGApass
^ Thanks Ty... We don't have photos of everything but that's our goal! In just a few short years, the Best of the West BBQ has had a lot of different signs. Here is a sampling: 1985: 1990: 1998: 2004: 2005:
gafreak
ANOTHER #1 SPOTLITE!
Yoshi
It looks really nice inside, like a Disney restaurant. I have never been inside the building but next season I'll stop in to take a look around.
ThemeParkRider
Love the spotlight, and the 98 sign! I hope its staying for a loooong time.
GAcoaster
It is the most popular restaurant in the park...I think it should be OK for years to come.
JetsDevs4Lyf
It took many years of going to the park before I actually ate in there, but that has become our staple place to sit down grab some good food, and relax. We especially like going out back and eating while watching the fish and turtles in the water swim around if it isn't too hot while we are there. 29yrswithaGApass
I grabbed this shot from a home video from 1975. Check out how the patio encircled the entire building, including the side facing the Log Flume where the extended kitchen facilities are now found. The Master
I remember for quite a number of years in the 90s, Best of the West was hardly ever open, at least when I went there back in the 90s.
29yrswithaGApass
This sign is posted outside the Best of the West Barbeque. If I recall correctly, wasn't it Six Flags New England that actually received this award? Question for our SFNE readers, do you have this sign posted at your park too? 29yrswithaGApass
Oh no! I think this is the first year since 1974 that the Best of the West does not offer barbeque ribs!
The Master
Probably every SF BBQ place has the voted best sign. I remember SFAW had pretty good BBQ, they had pulled beef and pulled pork.
scipiomask
I noticed the ribs were missing, too. So sad.... hopefully they'll be back. A question about food - is Great Character Cafe any good? I know they have burgers, but are they better than Johnny Rockets?
Tom Cloudkicker
I love the Best Of The West and their shredded pork sandwich. I took my meals there outside overlooking the lake where sometimes I might throw a crumb or two to the ducks swimming by.

scipiomask
It seems like they're turning Best of the West into a more average eatery. There's less "BBQ" and more "stuff that you can get at other restaurants". I liked how Best of the West was one of the only Six Flags restaurants with some heritage. Yankees99
No ribs? No tee pee? Not good. Bring it all back! Best of the West is the only part of the park that basically remains the same.
GAFanatic
I don't like the flat screen monitors used for the menu board. It's out of place in an old west restaurant and spends too much time away from the menu showing other things.
29yrswithaGApass
Does anyone remember a long saloon type bar being installed indoors briefly during the early 2000's when the "Saloon" part was added to its name? I believe it was located on the right-hand side of the doors closest to the kitchen on the side next to the Log Flume drop. I can't believe I never took a picture of it. GAcoaster
I wonder if the ribs are coming back this year...and wedges? I know they got a LOT of complaints about the diminished menu last season.
BuddyChrist
When I started doing tours in 2008, they had an executive chef at Best of the West, I think his name was Alex. He was a lifesaver when it came to rattling off all the menu options (before we had the printed ones made!) Too bad he wasn't there the following seasons. gafreak
the ribs better come back, that was complete bs, taking them off the menu, last season!
