Awesome, I really expected it to be early in May or so that the ride was going to open. Now it will be like two graqnd openings in the same month which is fun. Plus with it in April it may be possible to miss some of the highschool and college crowd that would normally make up the park attendance. Three cheers all around :)

New Press Release from Six Flags:

Six Flags Releases New Elements of 'The Dark Knight' Coaster

Monday March 3, 11:50 am ET

New Attraction Debuts in Three Six Flags Parks Late Spring 2008

NEW YORK, March 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Six Flags, Inc. (NYSE: SIX - News) released today key thematic elements of the highly anticipated "The Dark Knight Coaster," an indoor roller coaster based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming movie The Dark Knight. Featuring DC Comics' characters Batman and The Joker, the $7.5 million ride will open at three parks this spring -- Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ; Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL; and Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA.

"The design and construction of this ride will combine the excitement of The Dark Knight movie with the thrill of a roller coaster -- merging the two worlds into one unforgettable experience for our guests," said Mike Antinoro, Six Flags Executive Vice President of Entertainment and Marketing. "The Dark Knight film is a powerful follow-up to Batman Begins and we expect The Dark Knight Coaster to be a can't miss event for all audiences this summer as well."

"We're excited to partner with Six Flags to deliver an experience for Batman fans like never before," said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President of Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "The Dark Knight Coaster will give fans a firsthand experience, immersing them with the sights, sounds and thrills of crime fighting in Gotham City."

"The Dark Knight Coaster will offer both fans of the film and of Batman a thrilling new way to experience the characters and their world," says Cheryl Rubin, SVP Brand Management, DC Comics.

More than just a ride, The Dark Knight Coaster is an adventure that utilizes storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride thrill. As part of the experience, park guests will see, hear and feel the action of the movie the moment they enter the ride queue line, as they are transformed into citizens of Gotham City -- caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker. Guests will then board a Gotham City rail car and careen through demented hallways of twists, turns, unseen hills and chaotic images, and continue to be tormented by The Joker as they are thrust onto the battlefield of good vs. evil. Will The Dark Knight save them in time?

The attraction will introduce new, customized footage featuring District Attorney Harvey Dent (as portrayed by Aaron Eckhart), produced and shot specifically for The Dark Knight Coaster. The ride will also incorporate audio and visual elements from the film. The opening of The Dark Knight Coaster will be perfectly timed to coincide with the debut of The Dark Knight which opens July 18th.

Interesting concept, but while the theming is nice it also seems kind of sparce in the rendering video there with a lot of black nothingness to go through. Obviously it will be different when on the ride I'm sure, but I'm not completely sold on it being the huge success it could be.

A "KNIGHT" OF THRILLS, CHILLS

Indoor roller coaster will be the 13th at Six Flags Great Adventure

By Fraidy Reiss • TOMS RIVER BUREAU • March 7, 2008

JACKSON — You're at a press conference in Gotham City Town Hall when suddenly the Joker, a criminal mastermind, interrupts the proceedings with vile threats. You escape into a subway station moments before the Joker destroys town hall.

But still you are not safe.

The Joker has vandalized the station, scrawling "HA HA" on the walls. And even as you flee on the Gotham City Rail, you hear the Joker's evil laughter and his mocking voice asking, "Why so serious?"

No, you are not having a nightmare. You are riding The Dark Knight Coaster, the first new coaster to come to Six Flags Great Adventure since El Toro opened in June 2006.

The ride is based on the upcoming Warner Bros. movie "The Dark Knight," in which the DC Comics superhero Batman, played by actor Christian Bale, takes on the Joker, played by Heath Ledger, who died after the film had been completed. The movie is set to open in theaters July 18.

Riders who board the ride before July will get a sneak peek at the movie while they transform for 120 seconds into residents of Gotham City.

"Throughout the ride, you're tormented by the Joker," said Angel Aristone, park spokeswoman. "Will Batman come and save you? Let's hope."

When the roller coaster opens in May, a month after the park opens for the season, it will join Skull Mountain as Great Adventure's only indoor, dark coasters — though Skull Mountain is not as "heavily themed" as The Dark Knight Coaster, Aristone said. Wade Jackson, a coaster enthusiast from Deptford Township, approved.

Lately the coasters that Six Flags Great Adventure has introduced, such as Kingda Ka and El Toro, are only about thrills, he said.

"You go up a big hill and back down, and you go really fast," Jackson, 31, said.

The Dark Knight Coaster, though, will focus more on entertainment, making it a ride a parent can enjoy with a child, he said.

"They're taking a jab at some theming elements, along the lines of a Disney coaster," Jackson said.

Last year Great Adventure opened Wiggles World for young children. The new coaster will appeal to families with older children, said Mark Kane, park president.

"It's extending our family brand," he said. "We're trying to provide something for everybody."

Construction began last August on what will be the 13th coaster in a park that boasts more than 60 rides and attractions.

A crew has begun erecting the building that will house The Dark Knight Coaster in the Movietown section on the north side of the park. It will replace two other rides — Batman & Robin: The Chiller coaster and the Water Effect water ride — which have already been torn down.

When the seven-story building is complete, workers will lay the coaster track, said Alfred Rubano, director of facilities. They will use graphics and special effects to make the building feel like a subway station under the Joker's siege.

"To give you the impression there's bad things happening," Rubano said.

No major ride-related injury has been reported at the park in more than 20 years, noted Aristone, the park spokeswoman. The last fatality at Great Adventure occurred in 1987, when a park visitor died after riding Lightning Loops, which no longer exists at the park; a 1984 fire in a haunted house at the park killed eight people, Aristone said said.

However, many safety features and regulations are in place today that were not in place back then, Aristone added.

State inspectors are permanently housed at the park, noted Kane, the park president. Additionally, he said, Great Adventure assigns each ride its own maintenance team that makes sure nothing goes wrong.

"Every track and mechanism is inspected every day," Kane said. "Safety is definitely the main focus."

There's a large garage door on one side that's more than big enough to fit all the pieces of track and structure through.

Of course, but how will they put it all up? Is there a crane small enough to fit yet strong enough to lift the pieces? The track pieces are smaller, but still very heavy.

Well they can always get items like manual lifts and such in there and I am sure there is equipment that can also handle the job. Lets be honest here this ride was designed and engineered well in advance so all these curiosities we have have already been solved and become an afterthough by now in all likelyhood. If not then we will likely be looking at some sort of delay in opening the ride lol.

Good point. It would make sens at this point to have something in there to work on the project at this point. PLus if they ever need to do work on the coaster's interior it would be a good investment to possibly have some sort of hoist permanently housed within the building rather than have to rbing something in. With all the theming it looks like they will be putting in it could be easily hidden.

We've received an additional piece of artwork for The Dark Knight Coaster from the Park. Pictured below is a rendering of the ride's lift hill. While we don't have a photo of the exterior of Great Adventure's version of The Dark Knight Coaster that we can share yet, we can report that it looks different than the pictures currently on the web of the rides being built at SF Great America and SF New England.

Awesome. While the ride won't be extremely different, it is nice to know that the overall product won't be exactly the same as in the other parks. Being different is awesome lol :). Hopefully that doesn't mean it will be scaled back I think with the room they have over there, an absolutel amazing job could be done with the building exterior. Maybe we should get the rumbler Batmobile to go with the classic one haha.
