coreyh710
From what I remember about some literature about Medusa is that is themed after a mine. The miners dug deep enough to actually find Medusa herself and had to flee the mine or be turned to stone. I like that story and I think a new paint job would help the ride as well as some tunneling. BTW, what does "plus" the ride mean? reading this made me kinda giggle. because when your in that part of the park, you really have to look to find Medusa. 29yrswithaGApass
Source: Angel Aristone at Six Flags Great Adventure Six Flags Great Adventure Announces New Attraction for 2009 Season October 23, 2008 – Jackson, NJ – Six Flags Great Adventure, recognized for its award-winning collection of thrill rides, today unveiled plans to dramatically transform the world’s first floorless, looping coaster, Medusa. The Medusa redesign will deliver a multi-sensory ride experience with all-new thematics and innovative, state-of-the-art visual, audio and sensory effects launching it into another dimension of thrills and excitement. “Since it opened in 1999 as the world’s first floorless coaster, Medusa has been a fan favorite,†said Mark Kane, Six Flags Great Adventure Park President. “This redesign will take one of the park’s most popular attractions to the next level. A similar transformation of the X2 coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles has received widespread acclaim and we expect the relaunch of this ride to shatter that response. It will be a must-ride experience.†Six Flags Great Adventure continues to push the envelope - going far beyond traditional coasters to offer thrill seekers the exhilaration of a roller coaster combined with unique storytelling and high tech elements incorporating fire, fog, water and precisely orchestrated audio production designed to assault the senses for a world class “show†on a roller coaster. Unlike traditional coasters, Medusa trains are floorless, giving riders the sensation of flying as their feet dangle above the track. The B&M coaster is one of 13 coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure and has delivered more than 9 million rides since its debut. Guests can take advantage of the last chance to experience Medusa’s original Greek mythology theme during the remaining days of Fright Fest. JetsDevs4Lyf
I think this was the announcement that everyone was waiting for at this point. I am happy and hopefully with the rehab I will be able to ride it again as the last two season it really has been doing a number on my head. I am looking forward to the next step when we find out how the coaster is going to be rehabbed and the oppertunity to ride it I will have to suck it up and ride one more time this season just so that I can remember it well. CablesEric
...last chance to experience Medusa’s original Greek mythology theme... What mythology theme? I thought it was themed to a mine? I look forward to speculating what the change's will be (will the colors or name change?)

x Million Miles Away x
There is no way they would completely change the name because it would be way too confusing for people. Instead they will most likely do what they did with X, and make it Medusa 2 or something like that
Railer
Tunnels at the bottom of the Cobra Roll, and a new Entry Portal thru the Cobra Roll. And if they add On-Ride Audio, new Train's as well. That's what my Money is on. Medusa is still one of my favorite Ride's at the Park, and I am very happy to hear that this is happening. CycloneMan
I am very excited to see what this does to Medusa, because I don't really care for this ride. I am curious to see what the name change will be. -Dainan "I sence a Tornado" Rafferty

warnerleroy
I'm nuetral on this idea. I'm just SOOOOOOOOO glad Medusas not being removed and I think it'g a great idea, but what about HH? I also hope nothing is just taken out to bring down costs like with SPace Shuttle, FF was supposed to be, pushcars, and Old Country. But I'm REALLY looking foward to what they're going to do. 29yrswithaGApass
Pure speculation on my part but here's some of the things I think we will see - - Name change - Medusa is out - new name will be tied to a "mining" or "dynamite/blasting" theme - Purple and yellowish green are out - new colors will include red, brown, and/or black - Flames will be added at the base of the vertical loop - Fog will be added in the area of the interlocking ground level rolls - Tunnels will be added at the base of the cobra roll - this will also solve the track's close proximity to the walkway issue and provide entertainment for guests entering the ride area - A preshow will be added in the queue in themed wood encased flat screen monitors - New cars will feature audio/soundtrack - Props such as ore cars, stock piles, shovels, etc will be found throughout Just some thoughts. ChrisChavan
That sounds amazing. But what would it be named? I saw or heard somewhere that the name 'Copperhead' is circulating. It sounds like a good name, considering it is a 'Western' snake. And the colors you thought up are definitely possible. I just don't think tunnels are in on this. We have no coasters with tunnels, and correct me if I'm wrong, but we've NEVER had a coaster with a tunnel. I think something with the state prohibits tunnels on coasters. Other than that, I think everything sounds about right. I can't wait to see the new trains!

29yrswithaGApass
From Screamscape: 2009 - Medusa Makeover - Confirmed - (10/24/08) It looks like the initial rumors about the transforming of Medusa and the “Spider of Doom†were right on the money after all as the park has just confirmed this. It looks like someone got too close to the truth too soon causing the park to try and dismiss this rumor as quickly as possible earlier this month. But it was all true... because in 2009 Medusa will be transformed, X2 style, adding new themed elements, visual, sensory and audio effects. They claim that it will now feature “unique storytelling†as well as fire, fog, water and a custom orchestrated soundtrack. It also sounds like Medusa’s entire theme and possibly the name will be dropped in favor of something new, but they wont be ready to reveal more until Spring 2009. JetsDevs4Lyf
I think that with this ride and it's slightly isolated location in the park, this seemingly small revamp could do wonders. If people really do get excited about the park it could really breath some new life into the Frontier section of the park which was pretty dead for most of the operating season in general. The ride also has quite a few very interesting track segments which could host a wide variety of new elements of all sorts. I think that once the park closes this will be very interesting to watch develop.
